As fellow Chemical Engineering alumni, we are excited to share a great opportunity to recognize and celebrate our beloved Dibakar “DB” Bhattacharyya.

As you may know, DB began his teaching career at UK in 1969. Throughout his tenure, he has educated and mentored hundreds of students who have gone on to make significant contributions to the field of chemical engineering.

Now is the time to honor the man who helped shape generations of successful chemical engineers. Join us in raising $1 Million to create the Dibakar Bhattacharyya Undergraduate Excellence Fund, an endowment that will support the initiatives closest to DB’s heart. This includes undergraduate students and faculty, the Unit Operations Laboratory—DB’s professional home for decades—and other priorities within the Department of Chemical Engineering. What a perfect way to recognize DB’s extraordinary impact over more than 50 years!

Every donor to the DB Fundraising Challenge will have their name added to a printed honor book and can include a short entry about the influence DB had on their lives, a special quote, a favorite classroom memory or a photo of themselves with DB in the return envelope.

Additionally, contributors of $10,000 or more (payable over 5 years) will have their name added to “DB’s Honor Roll,” a commemorative plaque honoring DB’s legacy, which will be proudly displayed in the Unit Operations Laboratory.

Please join us to recognize and celebrate DB’s legacy and leadership. Your gift will help honor the man who has done so much.

With many thanks,

DB was THE defining teacher and mentor for me as a Chemical Engineering student. He pushed me, inspired me, and helped me build confidence that I could be successful. He continues to inspire me today with his insatiable curiosity, energy, ingenuity (he’s still patenting!) and dedication to his craft (Great Teacher award - again!). We are so lucky to have him as part of the Pigman College of Engineering!

I have been profoundly impacted by DB’s energy and passion for technology throughout my professional journey, from a freshman Chemical Engineering student to a CEO. His tireless pursuit of lifelong learning, curiosity and innovation has helped illuminated paths in research, business and personal growth. DB’s ability to connect with each of us is a testament to his extraordinary character.

In graduate school, I had an opportunity to work closely with DB on my MS thesis project. His high-energy and passion for research and learning motivated me to excel in my academic endeavors. Most importantly, we became friends and have stayed well connected through the four decades following my graduation from UK. I have always felt that DB is a unique individual who can relate to students and others in a way that can have an important lasting impact on their own journey in life.
